Our Latest Collaboration
Dust-to-Digital and Jim Linderman produce new work.
We are excited to announce a new photograph book from the collection of Jim Linderman, with whom we worked with on the wildly-popular, Grammy-nominated Take Me to the Water: Immersion Baptism in Vintage Music and Photography. At 12 by 9.75 inches, The Birth of Rock and Roll is the largest book we have ever published, and with 134 historic images at this deluxe size you will be both enthralled and delighted.
"In The Birth of Rock and Roll, Linderman's arranged a storyboard that dramatizes the spirit of rock and roll. Poetically, the photos evoke without naming, and have little to do with conventional iconography of the birth of rock and roll — i.e., young white men in Memphis, poodle skirts, Alan Freed, Bill Haley's Brylcream, etc. Instead they document, and celebrate, the pure but indefinable essence of rocking. Ordinary, nameless men, women, and children, some white, some black, are holding guitars and strumming while looking relaxed or frantic, but nearly always blissful. Where there is an urge to make acoustic or electric music — whether to help at a rent party, busk in front of a crowd, or testify in the name of Jesus — there's an uncredited photographer there to snap an image." — Joe Bonomo
We are thrilled about this book and its celebration of the unknown artists and fans who helped broaden the depth of American music. We have received a portion of the shipment of this title and are accepting orders via our website, which we will ship right away. The book will be making its way into stores over the next couple of weeks.
